How to Match Clip-in Hair Extensions to Dimensional Hair Colors

By Tatiana Montano

Do you have a lighter shade on top and a darker shade underneath? If so, we have a perfect solution for you to get your hair extensions to blend perfectly with both colors! In today's blog, we have used our doll head Nikki to demonstrate a typical customer with a lighter shade on the outsides of her hair but naturally has a darker shade with dimension underneath. Nikki matches perfectly with our  Lightest Blonde Shade in our Classic Extensions and her darker shades underneath best suits our Sunset Blonde Fill-in Extensions.

When we come in contact with some customers with similar shades, we typically recommend either a full set of Classic Clip-ins or Seamless Clip-in Extensions and a set of our Fill-in extensions. You're going to want the Fill-in Extensions to be in a darker shade to match underneath your hair and then you're going to want your Classic extensions or Seamless extensions to be in a lighter shade that's going to match the top of your hair.

How To Apply Multiple Shades of Clip-in Extensions

You'll first take an Individual Seamless Fill-in track in the darker color and clip it upside down underneath your hair. This will help conceal not only those shorter pieces of hair underneath, but it's also going to blend with that darker shade. Then you'll clip in the second track just above that, clipping it into her hair as low as it can go. We're going to repeat this same process on the other side.

Because you're clipping in the fill-ins so low on the back of the head, this is going to give you a little bit of extra length. So even if your hair is longer than 16 inches, these will work perfectly when you're doing this technique. The next step is to start clipping in your full set of Classic clip-in or Seamless extensions.

Now that both the set of  Classic Hair extensions and Fill-in Tracks are clipped in because we clipped in these so low, they are actually longer than the 16-inch Classic clip-in extensions, but they are both the 16" length. So we recommend just giving these little trim. You can trim these yourself and put some layers in them to help them blend even more seamlessly.

Once they are trimmed and both are at the same length, you will see that this has completely concealed the short hair underneath because of how we clipped it in. So it looks like you've got long pieces coming out right out from your hair, and then it blends perfectly with the darker color that you do have underneath. There is a lot of dimension and the extensions both blend together really nicely.

If you want to achieve this look and get the darker dimension underneath, add a set of our  fill-in clip-in extensions, and if you're not sure which shade is going to match your hair, DM us a few photos of your hair and we are happy to help make a recommendation.
